As per the 4.3.3 release notes::ĭeepPRIME leans on the GPU, not the CPU, so it would be folly to select "CPU only" for DeepPRIME acceleration on an M1. I expect that security updates will be available for years after that.Īccording to DxO it is a problem with MontereyĪnd both PL4 & PL5 with deep prime. MS will have full support for 10 until October 2025. I can't say how long any professional should wait before going to 11, if ever. The bad is that there is no compelling reason to "upgrade". The good is that software that ran under 10 seems to run under 11. There are some known bugs in 11, but they have had no effect on my normal software operations.ġ1 appears to be basically 10 with mostly cosmetic changes. Sloppy coders relied on no one wanting to enable core isolation.Īfter a clean install, everything has been smooth. The same security setting is present in 10, and the same conflict exists. The only issue I've had is with some drivers that were incompatible with the core isolation hardware security setting. Most of the time is spent re-installing software.) (With proper preparation, it takes a few hours to restore everything. I recommend a clean install of Windows 10, if you wish for a stable system. (Imaged the Win 10 drive first, of course.) The result was a mess at the least, the Windows Firewall settings were broken. One factor that may be significant: with the Win 11 beta build 22000.51, I tried to install it as an upgrade over Win10. I haven't made massive use of Photolab 4 yet (bought a license a week ago), and just got the free upgrade to 5. I have never had a crash with any software under it. (I went with the RP because I have an AMD CPU, and 282 includes a partial patch for some bugs that affects those.) I have been running Windows 11 starting with the beta 22000.51 (at the end of June), through the latest Release Preview version (22000.282). FWIW, I say that as somebody who paid for, but cannot successfully install, DxO Nik Collection 4 I get error messages that DxO says are a Windows problem, but I have not encountered with any other software, including multiple installations since this problem arose. It will be interesting to see whether Windows 10 users experience problems. IOW, the problem may well be DxO-but it could also be MS. Would I sound horribly cynical if I were to suggest some nagging suspicion that Windows 11 is still in truth at the beta-testing level, and might well take another year or more before becoming a really good, stable OS? If any of the new features are worth an upgrade I do not know yet, but I can not upgrade before they fix the stability of their product. I have the trial version up and running, but have already experienced 3 crashes on my WIndows 11 PC. This will be fixed in an upcoming release. When running macOS Monterey, activating DeepPRIME preview with CPU acceleration selected could cause the application to crash. The RC I'm running will become the release on Monday.Īccording to DxO it is a problem with Monterey and both PL4 & PL5 with deep prime. Yes, I'm aware that Monterey is Beta (I'll avoid the shouting all caps, that you felt necessary). PL5 works fine with the images I processed in PL4 the other day - with DeepPRIME and lots of adjustments - and it batch exports them THREE TIMES FASTER. Sony A7R4a, as an example, still not supported. Didn't see any new modules that jumped out for me. YMMV!Įdited again to add: I'm not seeing anything that makes me want to jump on this upgrade. In no rush to upgrade, especially at ~$125 upgrade pricing for PL5+FP6.Įdited to add: I did NOT do a systematic analysis to see what caused crashing and what is working. Need to delete the old database? Losing all past edits? Maybe delete the database but keep sidecar files? Just a problem with Monterey? Files never edited with PL4 open without problem. On my MacBook Pro (running MacOS Monterey RC) it crashes immediately when selecting a photo that has been edited with PL4.
